Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Semiconductor Physics
Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (SKO 1352) in Semiconductor Physics – Materials and device characterization of solar cells is available at available at
Department of Physics/
Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology (SMN).The fellowship period is 30 months. Within the framework of the position duties may be assigned. Starting date no later than Sept 1st 2015. Deadline for application is April 15th 2015.
Job description/ Project description:The position is associated with the Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology (SMN) at the Department of Physics, University of Oslo.Thin-film solar cells based on Cu
2ZnSn(S,Se)
4and Cu
2Zn(Sn,Ge,Si)S
4are developed for affordable sunlight harvesting with sufficiently high efficiency, long lifetime, and low exploitation of material resources. The successful candidate will combine materials and device synthesis in the Ångström clean room at UppsalaUniversity, with device analysis with focus on stability. Synthesis includes reactive and compound sputtering and RTP annealing. Device modeling will be used, with input from depth profiles by SIMS, and materials charactersation such as SEM, XRD and Raman scattering, in order to understand and improve the device performance. The work will be carried out in close collaboration with post docs and PhD students in the team.
The position is a part of the project “
Longer lifetime and higher efficiency of CZTS thin-film solar cells”, funded by The Research Council of Norway within the ENERGIX programme.
The primary objective is to achieve higher device efficiency of Cu
2ZnSn(S,Se)
4and Cu
2Zn(Sn,Ge,Si)S
4solar cell through S/Se, Sn/Ge and Sn/Si gradients, that shall be thermodynamic stable under device operation. That will be accomplished by combining synthesis and material characterization, thorough performance measurements, as well as fundamental theoretical analyses and computations of the material properties.
The project brings together research groups from the University of Oslo and the University of Uppsala in Sweden. The candidate will conduct research at both the universities with the main residence in Uppsala.

Qualifications:
The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.
The candidate must have a PhD or other corresponding education equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in Physics. We seek a candidate with a very solid scientific background in solid state physics, who has strong experience in device fabrication, materials characterization and device characterization including device modeling. Skills in thin film synthesis, microscopy, x-ray diffraction and Raman scattering are essential and optical characterization of thin films (transmittance, reflectance, ellipsometry, and photoluminescence) are advantageous.
Candidates without a PhD degree have until May 31st 2015 to complete the final exam.
The main purpose of post-doctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in top academic positions within their disciplines. Please also refer to the regulations pertaining to theconditions of employmentfor post-doctoral fellowship positions:
