Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in pharmacoepidemiology and biostatistics
A full-time 3 years position as post doctoral research fellow is available at The PharmaTox Strategic Research Initiative in the research group of Hedvig Nordeng at the School of Pharmacy, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Oslo, Norway.
The post doctoral fellow will be part of the multidiciplinary PharmaTox Strategic Research Initiative Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Oslo.
PharmaTox is a multidisciplinary center comprising strong research environments in pharmaceutical bioscience, biology, bioinformatics and statistics. See:
http://www.mn.uio.no/farmasi/english/research/groups/pharmatox/The aim of PharmaTox is to determine the impact of specific medications on neurodevelopment and propose the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved by combining human epidemiological data with biological data and data from neurotoxicity models.
We are searching for an ambitious and highly motivated scientist with a strong interest in biostatistics and pharmacoepidemiology. The fellowship is for a period of three years starting as soon as possible, but before October 1st 2015.
No one can be appointed for more than one fixed-term period at the same institution.
Project description:This post doctorial will be a continuation of earlier research activities at PharmaSafe Research Group related to medication safety during pregnancy. The aim of the project will be to use several statistical techniques to study associations between prenatal exposures to specific medications and neurodevelopment in childhood up to 8 years of age. The epidemiological data consists of the Mother and Child Cohort (MoBa) at the National Institute of Public Health linked to other national health registries. The range of methodological approaches to strengthen causal inference in observational data include; advanced statistical techniques (e.g. propensity scores, marginal structure models), sibling design, directed acyclic graphs (DAGs) and stratified analyses associations across indication.
The post doc will be expected to give some lectures and participate in training courses in pharmaco-epidemiology & biostatistics for master students corresponding to 10% of the work time.
Qualifications:The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.
Applicants must hold a PhD degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, or related disciplines. The preferred candidate has experience from research and teaching in pharmaco-epidemiology and biostatistics. Interest and experience with interdisciplinary work is an advantage.
The research fellow should be able to work independently and structured, while at the same time engage in close collaborations.
We offer broad training possibilities within a stimulating academic environment. We also offer overseas research collaboration with possibilities to spend up to 7 months per year abroad.
When evaluating the applications, emphasis will be given to their academic and personal abilities to carry out the project. Applicants may be called for an interview.
The main purpose of post-doctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in top academic positions within their disciplines.
