ONE POSITION AS POST-DOCTORAL FELLOW (SKO 1352) is available for three years at the Institute of Molecular Medicine.
The Institute of Basic Medical Sciences consists of departments and units that pursue research and education within basic medical science. The institute has approximately 340 employs and is located in the Domus Medica.
The position is linked to a project on molecular mechanisms involved in delirium and dementia run by a consortium including basic scientists and clinicians. The recruited scientist will be directly linked to the Chaudhry group investigating glutamine transporters and their functional roles in the recycling of neurotransmitters, neuronal signaling and neuropathology. The project will be run in close cooperation with Department of Geriatric Medicine at Institute of Clinical Medicine.This department is located at Oslo University Hospital at Ullevaal, and holds a large portifolio of clinical projects in dementia and delirium. The clinical research part of the consortium is headed by Professor Torgeir Bruun Wyller (see http://www.med.uio.no/klinmed/english/people/aca/tbwyller/index.html). In addition, the candidate will work with the groups of Professor Nenad Bogdanovic and Senior Scientist Bjørnar Hassel.
The candidate will generate genetically modified mice, characterize their phenotype and carry out research to elucidate molecular mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of delirium and dementia.
The fellowship period is 3 years, beginning as soon as possible.
The main purpose of post-doctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines.
No one can be appointed as a post-docoral fellow for more than one specified period at the same institution.
Qualifications
In considering the applications the priority will be given to the applicants’ academic and personal qualifications to complete the project and contribute to the main project. As a general rule, an interview will be conducted in the appointment process.
Requirements
- Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian PhD doctoral, strong academic background and with practical experience in generating and characterizing genetically modified mice.
- It preferably requires experience in biochemistry, confocal microscopy and cell culturing.
- Candidates with prior experience in neurodegenerative diseases will be preferred.
- Good knowledge of spoken and written English is required.
