Division of Anatomy PhD Candidate in Immunology
One position as Phd Candidate (SKO 1017) is available at the Department of Molecular Medicine, Institute of Basic Medical Sciences(IMB), University of Oslo. The position is associated with the group Molecular Immunology, led by Professor Anne Spurkland for a period of 3 years with a possibility for a fourth year with 25% compulsory teaching or consulting.
The IMB pursue education and research to promote basic medical knowledge in order to understand normal processes, provide insight into mechanisms that cause illness, and promote good health. More information about the Institute can be found here:http://www.med.uio.no/imb/english/
The IMB has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. Candidates will be selected in accordance with this, and will be expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.
The PhD Candidate will work in the group Molecular Immunology, led by Professor Anne Spurkland. The group is in the fore front of the characterisation of a novel adapter protein “T cell specific adapter protein” or SH2D2A. The group identified this gene in human activated T cells and have examined the signal transduction pathways which are modulated by this protein in T cells. Recent work of the group focuses on the role of TSAd in T cell activation and in development of disease, in particular cancer and multiple sclerosis. The group has established strong collaborations with scientists from Sweden, UK and the USA.
The successful candidate is either a medical doctor or holds a Master in a Life Science discipline.
The objective of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a doctoral degree. The appointment is conditional upon admission to the research-training programme of the Faculty of Medicine. An approved plan for the research training must be submitted no later than one month after taking up the position, and admission approved within 2 months.
Job description
The candidate will work with the project “TSAd as a target for immunotherapy”.The project will investigate how TSAd promotes transient alteration in Lck and Itk activity.
The work will involve immunological techniques such as advanced flowcytometry (imaging flowcytometry), Western blotting, immunoprecipitation and molecular biology techniques such as cloning, protein expression, transient expression of plasmids in cell lines and primary cells and mutagenesis of cell lines using CRISPR-Cas9 technology.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a M.D.or M. Sci. degree (equivalent to Norwegian master degrees) in Molecular Biology/Immunology/Pharmacology or a related discipline. The candidate should preferably have experience with immunological, biochemical or molecular techniques. Skills in flowcytometry or experience with CRISPR-Cas9 technology will be appreciated.
Strong personal skills will be emphasised.
In assessing the applications, special emphasis will be placed on the relevance of the candidate’s background.
The fellowship requires admission to the PhD program at the Medical Faculty at the UiO. For more information see:
