One position as Post-Doctoral Research Fellow is available at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, Department of Molecular Medicine. The position is associated with the research group of professor Anne Simonsen on the project “The role of selective autophagy in tumor suppression”. The project is financed by The Norwegian Cancer Society for a period of three years.
The Institute of Basic Medical Sciences consists of departments and units that pursue research and education within basic medical science. The institute has approximately 300 employs and is located in the Domus Medica. The Department of Molecular Medicine focuses on basic science, conducting research in several areas of cell, molecular and developmental biology with an overall goal to understand normal physiology and development of human disease. The Department aims for high international standard by promoting real impact and breakthroughs, and a dynamic and advanced scientific environment.
Job Description
The postdoc will take part in a basic project aimed at elucidation of the mechanisms involved in recognition and targeting of specific cargo for degradation by autophagy and their role in cancer. More specifically, the postdoc project will focus on 1) identification of novel lipid-binding proteins in autophagy and 2) the characterization of their function in autophagosome biogenesis and/or 3) selective autophagy. A detailed project description will be available on request. Previous experience with research within the research field and relevant methods will be considered an advantage.
We are looking for highly motivated individuals with the personal prerequisites to carry out the project within the given timeframe. The main purpose of post-doctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their discipline. The successful applicant may be subject to compulsory work in the form of teaching and some administrative work within the framework of the position. No one can be appointed as post-doctoral fellow more than one time at the same institution. Qualifications and Personal Skills:
In assessing the applications, special emphasis will be placed on the relevance of the candidate background, both when it comes to the research field and the experimental methods. The assumed academic and personal ability of the candidate to complete the project within the given time frame will also be considered. Short listed applicants will be contacted for an interview. A research seminar can be expected as part of the interview.
Requirements
- Candidates must have a PhD equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in cell biology, molecular biology or equal. Successful candidates must have submitted their doctoral thesis prior to the application closing date.
- We are looking for a motivated individual with the personal prerequisite to carry out the project. The candidate must be able to work independently, take initiatives and be responsible for own progress.
- The successful candidate must have extensive experience from experimental laboratory work in biochemistry and molecular cell biology, such as cell transfection, genome editing and RNAi techniques, Western blot analysis, confocal microscopy, protein expression and interaction analysis. Experience with methodology relevant for analysis of lipids and autophagy will be considered an advantage.
